Coats Off? Packing for Rome and Sicily

I’m still wearing my wool coat — with a scarf! — here in Vancouver, but we’ll be in Rome next week and Sicily by the end of the month. I’m trying to balance practicality and a bit of research with dreams of summer heat and the temptations of my warm-weather wardrobe. What will go in this carry-on?
