Paddling Into Fall . . . Trailing some memories

Last week we kayaked across Buntzen Lake, a 45-minute drive from home. I tested my paddling skills by chasing a floating leaf hoping for the perfect photo I had in mind. And I thought back through paddles I enjoyed (more easily) in our former life, on a small island.

Summertime, and the living is . . . .

Summertime, and the living is. . . delightful, but not as easy as when we were younger and had more energy! We’ve been hanging out a fair bit with a very energetic (and much younger!) crowd this summer, and I’m doing some Activity Triage here. Maybe this happens in your summer as well?

Busy Week, New Shoes, Golden Garden . . .

I could have worn these sneakers with that skirt to our “dinner and a (live theatre) show” last week, but you probably agree that the combo skews too casual-quirky. So new shoes were on my shopping list — and I found them. Took them for a walk in a gorgeous garden the next day as well. Come walk with me, and I’ll show you, please!

Wandering the sinuous, narrow vicoli of the old island city of Ortigia last month, I should have paid more attention to what turns my husband was taking just ahead. Instead, I found myself alone in the labyrinth, wondering where the man in the red pants had gone. . . But what an enticing labyrinth it was. . .
