Summers Gone, Summer’s Passing, Summer Now

I’ve been missing the remembered ease of Island summers past . . . feeling elegiac, melancholy, and very aware of time passing. At the same time, I’m wanting to make the most of the Summer I’m in right now, and set up some good practices or attitudes for future summers. After all, I’m not going to be 70 forever, right? Hah! Newly Septuagenarian!

I celebrated my 70th birthday this week in a beautiful seaside lodge with family. . . and now, newly launched into this 8th decade, I’m pausing for a bit to breathe mindfully. Travel Plans Derailed, Part 2

The shoes I wore to dinner after our first (successful — 28 km) day walking the Via Francigena wouldn’t fit me again this trip, thanks to a fall and a very swollen ankle the next day.
