The last few months have buffeted us in so many ways. Many of us are finally making tentative steps back to lives closer to what we lived pre-Covid. And as I’ve been doing that, I’ve noticed some tendencies. As well, of course, I’ve been chastened, sobered, by world events. Bringing Hope To the New Year

Even in this peculiar post-Christmas mix of fatigue and contentment, moving through various stages of puttering and torpor — punctuated by bursts of somewhat focused activity — it’s impossible to ignore the problems a new year won’t sweep away. So can I really choose Hope as my Word of the Year for 2022 . . . (the first time I’ve ever tried launching a year with its own word)?
