Bringing Hope To the New Year

Even in this peculiar post-Christmas mix of fatigue and contentment, moving through various stages of puttering and torpor — punctuated by bursts of somewhat focused activity — it’s impossible to ignore the problems a new year won’t sweep away. So can I really choose Hope as my Word of the Year for 2022 . . . (the first time I’ve ever tried launching a year with its own word)? That’s what I’m thinking about as we get ready to send 2021 on its way. I’d love to know what you think. . . .
