A Room in Peschici . . .

The bedroom in the apartment my son and daughter-in-law stayed in while we were in Peschici, Italy. I like the photo below, which shows the ancient beams on the ceiling, the white plastered walls, the thoughtfully chosen antique furniture and the paintings, books, and wall hangings that make the space homey and intimate. But I love the mood of the top photograph, as evocative as a portrait, in my estimation, its chiaroscuro play enriched by the heft of the blue falling through the centre of the composition. More parallel lines shooting off in various directions than I’d recognized at the time. A window, a rug, a bed, and the movement of curtains. Now there’s a story . . .

Oh, that swath of blue is stunning against the white and wood.

The first photo is all mood and mystery, and the second like a breath of seaside air from Denmark or Sweden. What an elegant room.

Interesting you should point to Scandinavia, Pondside — the owners of these properties are Norwegian. . .

The blue of the curtain catches my eye. It seems fresh and unexpected against the plaster and wood. I really love the look of rooms with paintings, books and shadows.

That first photo…..the blue curtain…..light and shadow, warmth and depth.

and it's always the shadow that emphasizes the light, isn't it?

Thanks, Sue. I think this could be the prompt for a great short story — mystery or romance or both. . . .
