Thank you all so much for your support and encouragement and understanding — if you haven’t scrolled through the many comments, it’s worth the time just to glimpse the wealth of wisdom and kindness in this particular online neighbourhood.
And it hasn’t all been just words — I’ve also shared the sartorial results of a too-busy morning: How to get showered and dressed and fed and out the door in 22 minutes or less . . .
It was a busy week, yes it was, with more fretting and fatigue than I like. . .
and so yesterday
I skipped my planned yoga class
and I apologized my way out of an afternoon service commitment at work
and I stayed home to nurse an incipient cold
and took a little wander in the fall garden.
It’s 2:21 AM as I write this, and the October rain has muscled up, is hurling itself at the skylight above me. Saturday now, and I’m going to try for a run in not so many hours, so I’m hoping sleep will let me back in its door soon.
I think you did very well cancelling some appointments and enjoying your garden instead. And it is beautiful indeed! Is it possible there is some connection between rushing out of the house with damp hair earlier this week, working just too much and that cold creeping up? Not to mention the emotional strain of the decisions you are pondering. So I wish you a quiet weekend to regain your strength, physically and otherwise.
You might be onto something there, the link between the rushing and the cold . . . feeling much more rested now, thank you!
I think Eleonore has pretty much said it for me! Glad you took some time out and (from a long-time insomniac) sorry you were still awake in the small hours. The worst time.
I'm not fond of knowing those wee hours — would be happy to sleep through them all! But last night I had a great sleep, straight through — lovely!

I hope that you finally dozed off. You do need to take time to sit with yourself and your plans for the future. The last couple of years have rushed by with losses of elders and with new babies. You probably (and I am speaking from my own experience) need to slow down and think about what you want to be doing for the next couple of years.
I did get back to sleep — was surprised then not to wake until after 8! That never ever happens and it was a good thing!
Nice sense of peace once the fretting is done. Yes to bowing out of a work commitment and skipping yoga class. There are other yoga classes to attend and work will continue to demand your time. Glad you are taking a little time to care for yourself right now!
And garden-wandering is almost as good as a yoga class for slowing the breathing. . .
Might I just add my nods of encouragement to all those above? Letting it all simmer gently on the mental backburner whilst enjoying the outdoors is the best way to deal with life changes. As the Blessed Julian of Norwich said many centuries ago: All will be well, and all will be well and all manner of things will be well. Maybe that odd anchorite knew a thing or two. Or perhaps she spent too long walled up…as the youth say: whatevers.
