Joy, Delivered by Phone. . . .

I LOVE modern communications technology! Until I retire at the end of this calendar year, I can’t spend as much time with my family as I’d like. Meanwhile, though, my daughters are wonderful about sending me phone photos occasionally. And if I haven’t got one for a while and I’m feeling that my granddaughters me manquent, I text a request. . . .

Last week, these three arrived unbidden to gladden my heart. Hattie, above, fortified against winter by her little Gap parka. Below, Nola, demonstrating that she does indeed cozy up in the Rainbow Pants she begged me to knit for her, but that I suspect may be too wild to leave the house, even on a 6-year-old. We’ll see. They took forever to knit, the yarn being fingering weight (non-knitters: skinny, skinny yarn on teeny tiny needle means kajillions of teeny tiny stitches). So I was thrilled to see her wearing them and happy to learn that she likes cuddling up in them.

And since we’re on a Dressing for Winter theme, here’s one last photo of Daughter #2 showing me that the Aritzia parka we got her for Christmas now has a match, being worn by little Frankie here.

Nana will try to take it down a notch now with the grandchild photos — a travel post will be up next (the wine tour post, I finished it!), I have a What I Wore under construction, and I’m also putting together a short post about a cool course I’m teaching right now, along with some Reading notes. But Nana hopes these little faces brought you some Joy today as well. ’cause we all need it in our lives, some days more than others. Hope you find some today. Take care.

This Nana is a text-photo junkie, especially when traveling. There's nothing like waking up to a photo or two from a son or DIL in a different time zone. It's like waking up with the littlies right there. I share your joy!

Yes, it really brings them close, although it's not quite as good as a hug. . .

They are all so irresistibly cute. The first one, with that sweet little face looking up and the feet in the puddle – just darling! This Nana doesn't mind this genre of post at all!

The little girls are adorable. In all of the Nola photos that you have ever posted, she has the same old/young smile. Each little child is charming in a different way. Did you ever see the picture about children and snowflakes? I don't think that you do too many Nana posts.

Interesting that you note that continuity of Nola's smile. No, I haven't seen the picture about children and snowflakes. I'll try to google and see what you might mean.

Don't dial down the Nana posts on my account….I love to see their sweet faces.
If I were to post pictures of mine (which I have been told not to…) I would have a nana blog! I phones are wonderful, and I love it when a new grandchild pic arrives!

I imagine my own grandparents who were separated by so many miles, dependent on every so often getting an envelope with a few photos in (and, of course, even taking and printing those photos took a chunk from the family budget).

Keep the grandchild photos coming! I love seeing them. I am on Facebook because that way I get to see photos the children and grandchildren of relatives and friends. Your grandchildren are particularly beautiful, as is your daughter!

Thanks, Marie, you warm a mom/nana's heart! Isn't FB great for linking families and friends this way? Yes, it can be a superficial connection, but nonetheless it keeps us up to date.

It is superficial in a way, but I like the "dailyness" of seeing frequent photos of children, hearing about the little things as I would if we were neighbors,

What delightful little girls you have in your family and how clear is the family resemblance and yet how different do they all look.

I have my first iphone and my daughter semi jokingly took a selfie of herself with her brother and loaded it as my wallpaper. I have to say that I love it and sometimes surreptitiously switch on the phone for no reason other than to look at the two of them.

AND THEY LIVE AT HOME so I see them once a day at least…

Something about being a mother now and always?

That's too cute, Ceri — I can just picture you sneaking a peak at your two on your phone. Yes indeed, something about being a mother. . .

That's exactly what pictures of children's faces (even ones that aren't my own) do for me, Annie G. They're so very cheering. Designed to raise our spirits!

That Hattie picture is beyond precious! Don't dial down the Nan posts on my account. I love them. They're part of our lives too! Fingering weight? I bow down to your effort. My lord woman, they must have taken forever and they're darling on her.
