Our young house guest went home yesterday, leaving her bike at the community boat dock for me to bring home on a walk later today.
Anticipating the joy of reuniting with her parents after a week away, she made them a marvellous, multi-paged card with surprises hidden inside cunning pockets she’d fashioned with tape and paper and scissors. The front page of the card wonderfully announced its purpose:
Yes, the niceties of proper spelling get glossed over in the need to create with passion, without consultation. But humour abounds as N “welcomes [her parents] back to child care” ….
For our part, having been released (or banished, depending on perspective) from childcare, we went to a housewarming party and to the local pub to hear a neighbour’s very good band last night. I got to a yoga class yesterday and did my long run this morning. So for the rest of today? Plans are to move from armchair to hammock to chaise longue. Perhaps one of the coloured beach chairs will get a sit. ‘Cause although I keep hearing that “sitting is the new smoking,” today will be devoted to reading the weekend papers and finishing my mystery novel (if you’re interested in my recent reading, do have a peek over here)
And you? Is your Sunday lazy? Happily so? Or are you busy today, and wishing for a lazy day on your horizon?
That kid is adorable!
Well, I think so! 😉
That card is great! Not having to worry about spelling does allow the creative juices to flow. I still chuckle when I look at the journals my two wrote and illustrated when they were that age…great records of daily life; sometimes quite revealing. I wonder how the teachers could keep straight faces?
I do feel a bit like a dinosaur when I remember how proud I was of my gold stars in spelling.
A lazy day here between two busy ones…enjoying a drop in the high temperature of about twelve degrees since yesterday.
Oh, I'm a dinosaur as well (and secretly proud of it — I'm a serious fan of proper spelling!)
The temperature dropped 12 degrees?! Wow! Even in Farenheit, that's dramatic!
What a cute card from your creative granddaughter. A slow day such as you've enjoyed (I hope) is one that will have to wait awhile. I relaxed on our vacation and it's been go, go, go ever since. I'm off to the big city across the water tomorrow to help a daughter/son-in-law move.
Well, I hope you stored up lots of calmness and strength on that relaxing vacation so that your bucket doesn't empty too quickly. Moving can really drain the energy levels! Take care.
How nice it is that you have time for all of your grandchildren, everyone is unique. I'm looking from her card to my son's framed card( when he was her age) on the bookshelf and smiling. She has a sense of humor, doesn't she?
I like my lazy sundays, morning to a mass, esspresso with my cousin or a friend after in a beautiful pastry shop, then a little work, lunch, reading and chilling, little paperwork in the afternoon( better if not!) and maybe cinema in the evening ( or more reading)
Dottoressa
I'm so glad I have time with them — so far, this girl is the only one we have for such extended periods of time, and I look forward to spending one-on-one with the others as they grow. It's so special!
I love the sound of your lazy Sundays. Hope the week has launched well for you!
How clever and adorable. And your day of relaxation and recovery also sounds wonderful.
It was just what I needed, Mardel — thanks!
I do love the creative spelling stage and always wish it were possible for it to last longer . I was more into creative arithmetic as a child …
"Sitting is the new smoking " . Can one be a passive sitter then ?
Ha! So my sitting contaminates the health of my more energetic husband . . .
We were up in Napa, celebrating our anniversary, so had a similar day, if you imagine a pool, and a gym, and barrels of food and wine:). Except, no N., and I love her writing…
Oh, I do like to imagine that. . .
Nice
