Not managing to organize many words here, although I’m working on a more sustained post. But I’m collecting some charming images here and there, storing up creative sparks, I hope, for slower days back home. While I plan to have a more thoughtful post up tomorrow (travel and retirement and goals and acceptance, you know, just a few little things), here is some eye candy to occupy you while we’re taking in a Wine Workshop en français followed by a night at the opera. And if you’re looking for more words, my daughter has another post up about ex-pat life in Rome. Cute baby pics. Awkward/funny cultural challenges.
I have a few series of photographs organized. Today’s is a collection of the sidewalk tables and chairs that are ubiquitous here. So many delightful colour combinations, variations on a theme…
And a glimpse of the well-garbed man in my life…
To be honest, the Mondrian-inspired set above was actually for sale at a local vintage shop, rather than in service at a restaurant, but I couldn’t leave it out. How mid-century perfect is it!?
I suspect that Pater would be quite willing to tell you about “the ones that got away” because he managed to walk so quickly and determinedly past that I reluctantly left my camera in my bag…. But doesn’t this make a good start? I’d love to come back here with my good camera and photograph a series of these sets, although then I’d need either an invisibility cloak or much less self-consciousness. The phone-camera combo is a boon to overcoming shyness. Who, me? Why, I’m just checking my messages, looking at my Google Map directions, texting my daughter….
So, just a quick tour today. Hope you enjoyed the colours, and hope your Tuesday is off to a good start. Thanks for reading! I never take that for granted….
Love those coloured tables and chairs! And Pater looks very smart indeed. I was just thinking, actually, that I've learned a lot about interesting fashion brands through reading your blog over the years, so thank you for that. Do you guide Pater's fashion choices as well, or does he choose for himself? My husband is so low-maintenance when it comes to clothing – probably because he wears a uniform at work – but I do sometimes have to steer him away from things that simply don't go together.
Thank you, Patricia! Flattered to think I might have inspired. Yes, I do help Pater choose, although he's begun to try some solo shopping as well, with mixed results, according to some of us….he won't be pushed too far, though, and he doesn't like to have too much, which I think works really well to give him a style of his own. I should think about postino on this at some point….
Bordeaux is such a beautiful town! Through your photos("one who stay" :-)) I feel like walking down the streets, markets, going in churches, bistros…….you've realy an eye for details and colours
I'm so happy that you two have such fun together
Dottoressa
Ah, the Ferrante reference. Such a pleasure to have such literate readers!
Fermob! Just love the colors of Fermob:). Looks like Bordeaux gives them a run for their money though.
Aren't they wonderful?! A French company, I believe, but I can see they'd suit California very well….
Hi Mater… What a cheery post … Don't colourful cafe chairs just brighten a day? Lovely to look back on holiday photos once your home. I call my photos on my phone my pictorial diary!! My husband bought me an extra large memory card … He knew I d need it!!
Rosie
I'm wishing my own memory card were even larger!
Meant to add .. I'm off to read your daughters post … Thanks for the link. I do check occasionally to see if she's written any new posts …they seem very happy in Rome. Guess you're excited to be seeing her soon …. and your granddaughter! 🙂
Rosie
I'm really excited about seeing them again, yes! Glad you enjoy her posts. Proud mama here….
Love the cheerful colors! They just seem to invite one to sit down and stay a while, don't they? Thank you for sharing.
They're pretty enticing, alright…. Joyful, like those great walking shoes on your recent post.
