A Friday in Venice? Don’t Mind if I Do. . .

I’ve written so many words this week, but not for today’s post, unfortunately. I have a brilliant gift of a post for Monday, a gift from a gardening reader, and I’m so excited to share it with you. But for today, I’m going to share a few visits from way back in May, when I was in Venice. . . Ah, Venice. . .

Hope you enjoyed this quick visit to a beautiful city! I have an 8 a.m. Session with my trainer at her gym to start work on a new program — she sent me a copy of it last night, and Oof! I’m a bit nervous, truth be told. . . Wish me luck!

And I’ll wish you a happy weekend!

I am among the few who haven't liked Venice much. But I do kind of wish I were going to the trainer with you:).

I have mixed feelings about Venice, but definitely found beauty there. . .
      You'd love my trainer!

It's those back lane shots that are so atmospheric. Hoping to revisit in January next year, no doubt oozing atmosphere at that time of year! Good luck with the trainer, don't over do it. B x

I debated stopping there in late November or early January, doing an add-on to planned trip to Rome, but I'd be solo and don't know if I'm willing to contend with high water on my own, should that happen. . . I'll watch your blog for yours, come January when I think it would be excellently atmospheric and far fewer tourists.

You have such a good eye for the textures of daily life.

Elle, that's my opinion too, such a good eye for the details!
I was twice in Venice, in early spring, long time ago, and liked it very much-but not so sure would I like to go again
Hope that you liked your gym session

I would like another week or two to get more out of the city's art, but I have to admit to not liking the city's ratio of residents to tourists. Quite sure they mustn't love it either. . .

Great photos! It's on the bucket list. We won't be going this year…maybe next. October would be my choice.

I'd guess October would be better than June, July, or August!

Venice in winter (November – February) is very high up on my dream list.

Yes, me too, and I'd rather hoped I could make it work this trip. . . .

We never did visit Venice , I don't know why not – crowds I think & it sounds so much worse these days , as the cruise ships have arrived en masse . The locals are fighting back I believe . Now I wish we had visited thirty years ago ! I'd be interested to hear your opinion of the place , for & against . I do like the pictures – you made it seem serene still

Perhaps I'll find time to say a bit more, but see the capsule summary above (at Dottoressa). . . Still, there is so much beauty there, and quiet corners are waiting if you're patient and willing to get lost.. .

We were in Venice in early winter and it was not crowded and the waters were not yet high. Your photos are lovely, and I have mixed feelings about going again. I'd probably go with someone who wanted to, but not on my own.

Lucky! That sounds like the perfect circumstances for visiting the city. . .

Thanks Frances, lovely to "stroll" around Venice this morning 🙂 I thoroughly enjoyed our visit a few years ago and plan to go back. Although I'm often saddened by recent articles referring to how few people actually live there now and the overwhelming influx of "cruise ship tourism"
I too, would love to visit in the winter as I imagine it to be very atmospheric and hopefully quieter. My favourite parts will always be the quiet alleyways and canals that are beyond the usual tourist path.

Sounds as if you and I (and a few of the commenters here) could travel happily together, wandering the quieter corners. It is sad to see how dependent the city is on tourists who seem to be there for the Selfies opportunities, checking St. Mark's off their life lists. . . .

How lovely to see the intimate face of this city. I have never been there and likely never will, so I am relishing these glimpses.

Pleased that I can reciprocate all the gorgeous glimpses you've given me into Scotland's lesser-known landscapes.
