Regular programming is temporarily suspended while blogger is laid low by fever, sneezing, coughing, and all-round use of copious paper tissues.
Ginger tea and hot lemon-and-honey and steaming bowls of chicken soup also feature in this interruption to good health. Much grumbling might be happening as well.
Fortunately, the Nine-Year-Old Granddaughter has been hanging out here today, and she’s great company. Also fortunately, her Granddad took her out to a movie (I’m envious — Christopher Robin!), so I’ve just managed a bit of a nap (so difficult to sleep when the breathing apparatus is compromised. Very little sleep last night — See? There’s the grumbling again.
I didn’t want to miss our usual mid-week chat, though, so I’ve rustled up these photos of one of the new murals added to our neighbourhood in this year’s Mural Festival — isn’t it cheery?
Oh, feel better asap! (I'm sure your roof garden will be a great salve – even if from the indoors…)
You're so right! Actually, all the windows in this place, not just those looking out to the garden, make it a decent place to be sick. . . with a view π
Grumbling entirely acceptable (says commenter living 3000 miles away). Hoping DH is okay with it, too…at least for a couple of days. Feel better soon.
He's being very patient, even nurturing. For at least a couple of days π
Grumbling is good! I saw Christopher Robin last week. It was charming for one who grew up with the A.A. Milne books. I hope you feel better soon.
I'm disappointed I had to miss it, but might take the Five eventually. Or wait and re-watch with the Nine when it lands on iTunes eventually. . .
Hope you fe el better soon. I love your blog. Best wishes from Guanajuato MΓ©xico.
Thanks so much, Cristina — your simple message really lifts my spirits.
You have to let the grumbling out, or you will burst…
Take care.
Ali
Thank you! This seems to be my basic belief. . . π
Summer colds are the worst-grumbling is one of the symptoms π ! Just kidding….
I do hope that you feel better soon
Your neighbourhood must look very colourful -I like the way the artist has used the wooden beam (or what is the name when it is vertical?)
Dottoressa
Very pleased to have your professional medical advice as validation . . .
I think that pillar is probably concrete — the wall itself seems to be made of concrete blocks. The various surfaces and materials involved in this large-scale mural-making are surely part of the (interesting!) challenge for the artists. . .
I shall send some soothing cordials and a mustard poultice up from the still room. And ensure the maid changes the hot water bottle. I assume you will not be at home to callers?
Wonderful! And some say it's hard to find good help these days. Pshaw. . .
Oh dear, summer colds are such a nuisance. Perhaps your feelings of exhaustion were already a part of this? In any case, hot chicken soup is definitely the best remedy.
I agree with Dottoressa on the painting of the deer (is it a deer?). Would you call that vertical thing a pillar? Or a post? It might make a very fetching goalpost π
I think you're right — and rather than resolve getting me to the gym on Monday, I might have been better to lay low another few days. . .
I'd call it a pillar. But I like your tongue-in-cheek goalpost suggestion
Sending a virtual delivery of freshly squeezed orange juice and my special homemade ginger tea and syrup. Love the mural with its folks artsy vibes. Feel better soon!!! Amelia
So kind, that delivery, thank you!
I got to hear the artist, Bunny Reiss, speak, and she draws deeply on an Eastern European heritage for that hippified folk-art vibe. Isn't it fun?!
Summer colds/flu are dreadful things. The murals are very bright and cheery, and I hope you will soon feeling just as cheery.
Thanks, Lorrie!
Hope your're feeling better soon. It's a lovely day in Ottawa to be so afflicted, sunny, breezy and barely 20Β°. Were you here, you could wrap up in a quilt and ensconce yourself on our deck with tea and your book. And no callers:)
So sorry you are sick – summer colds are the pits as so many of the remedies seem to involve things that warm one up. AND a feeling of great exhaustion/ennui I think is a warning sign of coming down with something. Hope you feel better directly – sounds like you are doing all the right things.
Love the deer mural. It seems so free!
ceci
Thanks, Ceci — in retrospect I think that probably was a warning sign I should have heeded. So I'm really staying slowed down right now. And isn't that mural a delight?
Very cheery. I hope you're getting all possible fluids and comfort. xoxox.
