Mother and Daughter and What We Wore . . . Handknit Style

How about a Mom and Daughter in Matching Handknit Sweaters post?

Sadly, I wasn’t smart enough quickly enough to get a photo with both of us wearing the sweaters at the same time (something we probably want to continue avoiding ๐Ÿ˜‰ . . .

But I did recognize the blogging potential when my daughter came over to pick up the Birkin sweater I made earlier this year — and wore often after modeling it for you here. She’d complimented me on the newer, more neutral version I’m wearing in these photos with my white jeans, bought-them-in-Bordeaux tan suede ankle boots, and M0851 bag. . .

And I’d realized how perfectly my first Birkin suited her colouring, quickly calculated the ratio between my limited dresser space and the wear I’d get out of two very similar sweaters with striking design features. . . .

And offered it to her. . . .

She accepted my offer with flattering alacrity.

 Perfect pairing, right?

Eventually, I will get a photo of us both wearing our sweaters, our turquoise blooms encircling our respective shoulders. . .

Watch for it! ๐Ÿ˜‰

The conversation continues to evolve over at my last post on the persistence of Monday morning list-making in my retired life — I apologise for the shocking number of editing errors — I’ve caught and revised most of those now, and I continue to read and try to keep up with your comments. My favourite part of blogging, despite the time it takes to facilitate. Thank you!

That bright copper colour is beautiful with your daughter's hair. I'd like to see you both with your turquoise blooms. You should go to Wool Week in Shetland one year.

The sweater suits her so well, doesn't it?! Oh, that would be wonderful, to get to that wool week, or just to get to Shetland at all!

This worked out well, eh? You each look lovely in your sweater, and its great to see how pretty your daughter is in these perfect for her colors.

It did work out well! I had fun knitting both and liked playing with the different colour combinations, but I didn't need two for myself. . .

      I do have beautiful daughters, don't I?!
I really should try Ann Cleeves again — why haven't I caught that bug yet? But okay, shall we all meet up in Shetland? ๐Ÿ˜‰

I love both sweaters. The darker one looks great on your daughter with her auburn hair. And her hair…her hair…is wonderful. Sigh. I guess we all know where she gets the curls from.
Your new grey/neutral sweater is fierce with white jeans, Frances. If I had to pick one over the other it would be this one.
Did you share before where the pattern is from? I can't remember. I'm thinking ahead to my planned foray back into the world of knitting this winter.

Yes, I think she gets the curls from me, but her hair is so different than mine — really thick, and the colour . . .
I'm really happy with the pairing potential for "my" sweater (it's actually more oatmeal than grey)
The pattern is Birkin by Caitlin Hunter (she has a website Boylandknitworks.com)

Wonderful sweaters. Your girl is beautiful in hers. (She has gorgeous skin and hair.) I love her in particular for her IG bio: "I honour and acknowledge that I live, work and play on unceded Coast Salish territory."

Isn't she great? (I'm biased, okay!)
I love that she's posted that as well — I used to open all my classes this way, each term, when I was teaching, and I know many of my colleagues did as well. It's become increasingly common to hear this acknowledgment here, part of a much larger truth-and-reconciliation/decolonisation project (and we hunker down against the backlash. . . )

gorgeous sweaters and even more beautiful women. I am in awe of your talent! Still pondering your last post. I retired 8 years ago and am still trying to work out my new life. Darby

I'm really interested in the comments/conversation in response to my last post — our experiences are varied but mostly in complementary ways, it seems. So. . . 8 years and you're still working it out? That shouldn't really surprise, should it? After all, did we ever feel we had our pre-retirement lives figured? ๐Ÿ˜‰

maybe it's because for so many years my life was really busy, being a single parent, finishing a degree, working one full time and often a second part time job. when I recently told someone I had just met my current schedule they surprised at how much I was doing. so many I need to adjust my perceptions. Yes, and sometimes it seems that the more we do, the more we can do. . . but stepping to a different path really shakes up the rhythm and can require adjusted perception. Good luck with it!
