I’m back from Vancouver, the septic system is working well, and I could be happily curled up by the fire with a book, except that it’s August, and I’m a bit tired of being pleased that the garden’s getting some rain. It’s had enough! Bring back the sun, please. So grumpily curled up will have to do, and I’ll divert myself by thinking back to some of the meals we had in Paris so that I can have another post on that for you very soon. And I have a big diversion next week, but you’ll have to come back later to hear that news.
Meanwhile, there have been other diversions. For example, ooh-ing and ah-ing with my mom (who only rarely gets downtown to shop, being rather reclusive and not keen on Skytrain or cabs — very appreciative of the outing) at Holt Renfrew. Most of the ogled clothing was out of our price range (Mom loved a seriously sophisticated, oh-so-soft jacket by Lanvin–each of the five buttons charmingly different, pearl, rhinestone, satin-covered), but I keep thinking about this gorgeous Robert Rodriguez skirt. What the photo doesn’t show is that the skirt is high-waisted, with the top six inches or so being a horizontal banding of the same fabric. Neither does it show the pleats very clearly– they keep the fullness of the fabric under control, and what a fabric it is. It’s as light as silk, but it’s polyester; normally that would be a no-go for me, but the feel of this suggests it’s a high-end, well-behaved polyester, which perhaps I’d like better if we called a microfiber or something. At any rate, the colours are luminous, and what appears a print in the photo above is actually brocade, so there’s wonderful texture as well as colour. Oh, and you can’t see the pockets either, can you? But they’re there. And I really love pockets. I didn’t try it on as the outing was meant to be for mom’s benefit, but if it’s still there next time I’m over, I’ll have to at least see what it looks like on. I may well find it’s just too much drama for my height, but for now, I’m smitten. And you know, if I were wearing it, I might not even need to be diverted from the rain . . .
Ooh, that is gorgeous. I love those colors! The flowers remind me of Chinese chrysanthemum paintings and embroideries.
Yes…I am also getting tired with consoling myself by wearing layers. Even a cold weather lover like myself needs some heat now and then.

What a show stopper. I too have just spent a day shopping, but with Kitty and Leyla. Zilch for me it was very painful.
That skirt is sublime, it’s art, it’s music, it’s irresistible.
