Perhaps I’ve been living under a rock, but I barely know what IFB stands for (Independent Fashion Bloggers), let alone what the recent brouhaha about it might have been. I realized something was happening only whenUne Femme posted this morning, and as you might expect of that always-classy blogger, she took a very positive approach to the subject. Going over to that post will garner you an introduction to a blogger whose scarf-tying aplomb inspires our Sue (Une Femme) and if you know Sue’s way with scarves, you’ll know that’s saying something.
Apparently, Une Femme’s very positive approach took its impetus from another classy blogger, The Citizen Rosebud, who hasinvited us all to spread the word about Bloggers who inspire us, particularly Fashion/Style-wise.
Patti at Not Dead Yet Style is another who’s responded to this invitation — she’s posted about a favourite blogger of mine, Melanie, and if you haven’t yet met this exuberant fashionista whose art school background is clear in her every post, you deserve to — Go, now, Patti will introduce you.
And I’d like to join the party. First, I want to add to Patti’s recognition of Melanie by noting that Melanie not only blogs at Bag and a Beret, but also has a fabulous Vancouver street-style blog, Culture Serf, which embraces a more diverse vision of style than many that seem more focused on recent trends than on real creativity.
I’d also like to introduce a new blogging friend of mine,Jennifer at A Well Styled Life. Jennifer divides her time between San Francisco and Vancouver Island (where, it turns out, we’re practically neighbours, living less than 40 kilometres apart). That she is a veteran of the fashion industry, trained as a Certified Fashion Stylist, shows in her elegant posts, and I’m having fun getting to know her and picking up some style tips. Now you can too. . .
Citizen Rosebud has promised to check out posts on this subject, so I’m going to comment over there and leave my URL — I’m guessing there will be a plethora of new blogs in her blogroll soon, so I’ll be keeping an eye on it — it’s already a great resource for those who want to find +40 Bloggers, and it’s about to get even better!
What a great blog you have Materfamilias !
Thank you for giving me the opportunity to discover it as well as many others (the idea of spreading the word about other fashion blogs is wonderful!). I recently entered the IFB sphere – still very mysterious to me. (Any explanation about how to use it are welcome by the way !)
I'll be happy to explore further your blog which sounds so interesting!
Have a great day 🙂
I have no idea about IFB, although I peeked around today a bit, out of curiosity, and picking up what's been going on I've decided I haven't missed much. I prefer to discover new blogs one by one through word-of-mouth from bloggers I already "know." Happy to have found yours this way, and thanks for stopping by to visit here. I hope we'll stay in blogging touch. Enjoy your weekend!
Thank you for spreading the love Mater!
You're always welcome, Susan. It's a great community, isn't it?!
Thank you for the mention, Frances, and for the intro to Jennifer and to Culture Serf — fabulous new finds for me.
Isn't it fun to find new, compatible, friends with interests relevant to our own? Thank you!
Thank you so much, Frances, for including me in your intros, not only Bag but also Culture Serf! Vancouver Magazine printed a small piece about Culture Serf in their latest issue, and hats off to them too for including a 40+ style-eyer like myself. Of course it is an honour to be included on your blog and in Patti's Not Dead Yet Style blog. I look forward to checking out the other bloggers you've mentioned here.
Cool! You got a mention in Vancouver Magazine! I'll have to grab a copy off the newstand — your stats will be exploding! Now I'll never get a chance to have coffee with you at 11:00 some weekday morning at Artigiano's on Hastings. . . .Damn!
Thank you so much for the mention!!
Finding like minded women is not always easy where we live, so to be able to do so through blogging is wonderful (which no matter how many times I try to explain to my husband, he just can't understand!).
I completely agree with you and find the best blogs through referral. I will find myself getting lost down the blog hole for hours on end, and never end up writing one of my own.
OH nice, some new-to me places to go visit. Thank you.
