Can I get away with another What I Wore quickie, low on the chat? The term pace has slacked off a little bit, now, as my students work on their research papers, and once I clean up the last bit of marking (about 15 papers), I should have two fairly light work weeks. (Of course, that’s only if I ignore the reality that I’m teaching a brand new-to-me course next term, and have to get moving on the prep for it. . . .the reading never, ever stops).
These slower weeks during term, however, always reveal what got sacrificed during the intense rhythm of the first 8 weeks. I managed to get a cleaning team in here last week, Hallelujah! (Pater means well, even cleans well, but we have different tolerance levels for different tasks). But sorting out household filing, some financial tasks, catching up on personal correspondence, making appointments with dentist, doctor, optometrist, and audiologist, spa (What? I really, really need a facial! It’s about the incipient moustache as much as it is about needing to be pampered.)
As well, increasing my running mileage not only takes more weekly minutes. . . well, okay, hours. . . but it also demands extra from my body — uh, duh, what was I expecting? . . so I’m tired and need to find some napping time.
I do have many ideas for blogposts, but for now, they have to remain ideas, almost-drafts, until I’m energetic and organized enough to write them. Meanwhile, I’ve been snapping my outfits in the door mirror as I head off to work in the morning, and if they’re halfway decent, I’ll share them with you. As with Wednesday’s, this is one I added Text to with PicMonkey. In case you can’t read that lettering, here’s the lineup:
brown v-neck pullover, Bompard; leather jacket, Mackage; printed skirt, Smart Set (a Canadian HighStreet/Mall franchise — haven’t shopped there in years, but I love this skirt); Acne boots.
have a good weekend, Frances! that skirt IS cute.
xo Lisa
Hope your weekend's great too, Lisa — I've been thinking of you (if it's THAT Lisa) & will e-mail v. soon.
The jacket's fabulous; it was the first place my eye went. I really like the cognac boots with the black tights. I pinned something similar recently, just something about that contrast is very appealing and ties in both the skirt and the jacket.
Thanks! The jacket gets oodles of wear — I really like it!
from the other side of the lectern – i'm facing three assignments to finish before the end of the semester; i'm trying hard to feel sympathy for my instructor …
but a What I Wore is a great post – inspiring and just the right busy-time contact to keep in touch. thanks
i must get a full length mirror and copy your click-and-run style 🙂
That's a tough gig, trying to squeeze assignment-writing time into family time — only a few more weeks to go, then a break, right?!
The full length mirror is so handy for this — Paul picked them up at Home Depot for not too much at all, put them on a few doors, one upstairs, two down. They really bounce light around as well, always welcome.
I need to take inspiration from you too, both on the photo-clicking, and the figuring out how to wear boots with skirts and dresses. I love the way you put things together and they look so good on you, but whenever try I just feel lost. I love how the boots pick up the colors from the skirt and ground the outfit.
I really do like the skirt/dress-and-boots combo. Thanks for saying they look good. Interesting how it takes a while to find a way to adapt a look we like for our own bodies and aesthetics, isn't it?
Great outfit – I'm glad you have a mirror near the door so you we can have a peek. I really like the booties with this. Amber of Butane Anvil was also wearing a Smart Set skirt recently. I love seeing the names of Canadian retailers.
And some comment housekeeping: Thank you very much for the thoughtful post on the yellow skirt! And about your barred owl post, there was a barred owl settled downtown near the Art Gallery while First Nations women were protesting the handling of the Picton inquiry. They said it was a protecting spirit. I saw him sleeping on a tree near Hornby and Davie, about 10 vertical feet away from me. VERY cool.
Wow! How wonderful that a barred owl presided over that gathering! Very cool indeed!
You look great, as always.
Reading your posts I'm amazed by the sheer amount of what you accomplish. I admire your stamina.
My own pace is slow. I tend to ponder and take care of details first.
Thanks Susan. Remember that much of what I get done is underpinned by the support of a semi-retired husband who does most of the grocery-shopping & cooking — a big deal!
I got behind on the marking when I was trying to finish up the article manuscript for submission. I've almost managed to get out from under the stacks of student papers the past couple of days, but I will need to spend some time with them this weekend and do some cleaning so that our home doesn't look like a den of slovenly iniquity when we have people over for brunch tomorrow.
Good luck with the catch-up (and congrats on submitting that manuscript!). And then a well-earned happy time over your brunch tomorrow — sounds like a busy, but balanced weekend!
I meant also to say that I love that skirt and jacket paired together! Great soft and hard juxtaposition.
