Divertissements . . . .

Sometimes one just has to look determinedly in a happy direction. . . .These miniature irises, for example, are good for the eye to focus on, even shielded as they’ve had to be, against the deer’s visitations.

Then there are these wonderful salads Pater has been putting together ever since he perfected his soft-boiled eggs. Poached are, yes, very nice on salads as well, but these peeled, only just-a-hint-of-wobbly ovoids give the perfect cheer of white and yellow to brighten a simple plate.

And then there’s yoga, as well as my running of course (of which an update post is coming soon).  I have scarcely been able to get to any classes with this term’s schedule, but I managed to squeeze in a Yin Yang class yesterday morning with Pater. No worries — I only wear this get-up on the island, across on the boat, and straight into class, changing into more respectable cords after. But I thought you might get a chuckle, plus check out that gorgeous floral patch (it’s actually a pocket!) on my new Lululemon leggings.

Aren’t those fitting directions to be looking in as the weekend begins? Flowers, food, fitness (hey, who can resist a little alliteration.. .)

What might you be up to this weekend? I’d love to hear.

Love the leggings. My weekend will consist of fitness, fun and food. With a bit of alcohol and some pain, from the fitness. Hope you have a good weekend.

As long as the alcohol and pain are balanced with the fun and fitness. Enjoy!

Wouldn't it be fitting if the flowers on that patch were miniature irises?

The eggs and greens look like a very French salad. Délicieuse! Food, family, and fun are on my weekend plans.

Delicious looking salad…I make a similar one and I think we might just both have the same china pattern…is it Maxwell Williams?

It's a Portmeiron — Sophie Conran pattern. Isn't it satisfying (and pretty) salad?!

You have inspired me. M. Là-bas is at an old-timers vs. Vancouver Giants hockey game and I didn't know what I wanted for supper. Egg, greens and a little goat cheese with bien sûr a glass of white wine.

Perfect soft boiled eggs! Not easy to achieve and I usually get it a bit wrong one way or the other, but still trying. Got to have some goals in life!

This weekend will be spent recovering from flu and exploring other people's blogs. Endlessly fascinating.

Thanks for taking time from your flu recovery to comment here! Other people's blogs are a wonderful exploration, aren't they? Have a good weekend.

really enjoying your iris as we are still under several feet of snow in southern Ontario. But I know those bulbs I ut in last fall are under their blanket just waiting for the wake-up call. Also still recovering from tough yoga workout yesterday.

For the week-end, it's the Met live on HD Parsifal (five and 3/4 hours!), and friends for dinner on Sunday with scallops on a bed of radicchio sauteeded with pancetta
(recipe from Fine Cooking last year or two- made it once and love it) and poached pears for dessert. Haven't decided on salad yet, something tres simple, I think

Your springs are so sudden and amazing to me — ours unfold slowly over weeks and weeks, but I've been in Ottawa for spring a few times and it absolutely explodes. Those bulbs will be serenading you with their blooms eventually . . . And that sounds like a marvelous meal you're putting together. That and Parsifal will make a very good weekend indeed — enjoy!

Hi Mater, I'm about to cut my husband's hair! After that we will go out to do some shopping, then we plan to watch Argo on demand. Your flower photos as lovely to see, especially as there is still lots of snow on the ground here.
    Enjoy your weekend!

Did you enjoy the movie? We haven't watched it yet — have many of the Oscar films to catch up on, in fact.

Mater, I'm afraid we didn't get to that particular movie. Our son wanted to watch something on TV, so we watched a DVD of the remake of The Italian Job on the laptop. We saw the original a few weeks ago (and plan to do the same with the two versions of Charade). However, the hair got cut!

I'm very quiet today. Your iris photos make me sad that mine seem to have given up the ghost:(. Must call the gardener and have him replant. So foundational work for future happiness, I guess. xoxo to you and P.

Mine are the miniature irises, which seem to naturalize quite nicely. . . Foundational work for future happiness is important. It's always lovely when that happiness rolls around and you remember the satisfactions of setting the foundation.
