Visibly Cozy Cashmere . . .

I must begin by thanking you for all the wonderful comments you left on yesterday’s post, thinking about retirement. I’m responding to them one by one, as I find time and energy, but I want to mention them here as well because I think they deserve to be more widely noticed. I feel so honoured to have drawn so many wise women — and so far all the commenters are women, as I imagine most of my readers probably are — to the conversation. It’s obviously a topic that many of us think about, and I promise to come back to it from a few different angles before too long.

Despite the “serious thinking” going on around here and the “dealing with difficult life stuff,” I’m still getting dressed. . . . Still trying for some visibility. . . Joining Patti’s Visible Monday, which is such a great project to be part of — check it out for a stunning array of women sharing their Visibility.

I picked two photos from recent morning mirror grabs. Above, my JBrand skinnies; Bompard cash. v-neck pullover; Club Monaco cash. cardi; new Club Monaco scarf — delicious navy and gentle orange paisley on cream; and Fluevog loafers.

Below: JCrew skirt; cash. Bompard v-neck cardi (thank you Duchesse, really glad I trusted you on this one!); CM cash. scarf from a few years back — just happens to match the Bompard cardi perfectly! and Fluevog boots. . . .

You probably noticed that I’m doubling up on the cashmere in both outfits. What can I say? I need hugs all day long . . . 😉

I really like the blue and purple together and because you run you get to wear a shorter skirt. Getting dressed can be uplifting.

I've been thinking about you a lot, Frances, and sending good thoughts your way. I have some experience with what you're going through, and lots of empathy for you xoxo. Your cashmere(s) look wonderful today and they do give comfort, don't they? Thanks so much for taking the time to link up, amidst your many duties.

Thanks, Patti. It's a tough part of life, but it's part of the richness, I guess. . .

Your post yesterday left me with little to add to the conversation, but much to think about. I think about the years I may have left, and wonder what they hold. How can I make the most of them? My parents are still very active in their late 70s and busy with travel and volunteering. My husband will be working until at least 65 because he loves it, and will likely consult after retirement. No conclusions here, just thinking.

Your skirt is so cute – I love the colour and you wear the style well. Thinking of you a lot these days.

You're lucky to have that model of parents enjoying their late 70s, still active and healthy. My mom made the best of widowhood, but started to fail in her late 70s, cognitively, in part, we suspect, because of chemo's side effects. And my Dad passed away in at 73. They had a marvelous partnership until then and really made the most of Dad's retirement years — which, luckily, he took fairly early. Probably why I'm so conscious of my choices in the next while. . .

Love the outfits, especially the first one. Cashmere is the best for feeling snug but not bulky, isn't it? I now have 3 EB cashmere v-necks that I adore – I look forward to winter so I can wear them!

Getting dressed may seem trivial when there's so much 'big' stuff going on, but I believe in the 'fake it till you make it approach' – even if you're feeling overwhelmed/exhausted/sad/insert relevant adjective, dressing like you're on top of things can really help. I do have to remind myself this sometimes …

They just feel like the best kind of treat, don't they, the cashmere v-necks? And I agree with the "fake it 'til you make it" approach as well, and clothes can be a big contributor. . .

Dealing with the difficult stuff and still getting dressed. That is inspirational. I love both outfits. I have several cashmere cardigans I managed to get in a sale and I wear them throughout winter and some of summer (it's England we'e always cold).

Keep getting dressed and doing it so well.

I think your climate is fairly similar to ours — I wear my navy pullover through the summer, as it's very lightweight and I still need hugs in the summer!

You know that hppy sound cats make when you walk in the room? Brrrr-up! So glad you like the cardi and the colour is richly vibrant.

I do really like wearing it — the new EB catalogue arrived in today's mail. Trying to ignore it for now . . . 😉
