And more happiness! A few weeks ago, my daughter Megan took Harriet to Brandie Coe‘s Vancouver photography studio for a session of baby photo-taking. Not long after, Megan sent me a link to a lovely gallery of Harriet in various outfits, with a few simple and charming props, some taken when our little girl had fallen asleep, some when she was awake, and then back to sleep again . . .
I loved these photos of Harriet wearing the little dress I’d knit her — somehow the rainbow of garter stitch seems the perfect adornment of this sleeping innocent beauty (A Nana’s allowed — no, obliged — to be biased, right?)
By the way, we’re certain now that the (albeit sparse) hair Hattie sports is indeed reddish. And when she opens those tired eyes, her irises are blue, blue, blue . . .

I’m off to Vancouver after work today, and I hope to cuddle two little granddaughters this weekend, but my main focus will have to be on my Mom — Paul and I are spending Friday night there. Saturday night is Opera Night — The Magic Flute!

The dress is so beautiful that I was fantasizing about an adult version. The red hair also wonderful, although I confess that I love the baby-baldness and am always a little sad when they pass that stage. Grand-Mater, you are truly grand in every way.
I'm imagining you in such a dress, perhaps at a reading. There you are at the podium, a vision of colour that almost distracts from your wonderful poetry . . . . You're right about the passing of baby-baldness. And I love to think that someone sees me as grand. TY!

what a beautiful, beautiful baby and such stunning photography that captures precisely the numinous texture of skin and hair at that precious, fleeting stage of babyhood. Her colouring sounds like she's a mini Celt, which is a very proud ancestry to have.
Babies undoubtedly seem to exist with their own personal cloud of Happiness Magic about them. I take my 12 month old daughter to visit a nonogenarian lady from church who has just moved into a local nursing home. When my little one is set free to lurch in her lop sided crawl across the carpet of the communal sitting room, broad smiles and chuckles and a contented, restful sort of quiet fills the space as various residents contemplate her, and have her on their knees and sniff her hair and squidge her plump warm body against their heart, and reminisce about their own off spring. It seems to lift all their spirits, not just those of the lady who was the focus of my visit. I have a legion of honorary grand parents eagerly awaiting her first steps and inquiring about her sleep patterns!!!

I can just imagine the joy your baby-toddler brings to the elders gathered at that nursing home. And I love the verb "squidge" which seems just perfect for what one does with wee warm babyflesh. . . . 😉 And I agree that our little Harriet is manifesting every one of the Celt genes that have poured into her from a variety of branches on the family tree. . .
