Mainland to Big Island to little island. . . Almost Home

We’ve managed a few things on my Glad-to-beHome list . . . Visited all our Vancouver kids yesterday, delighting in everyone’s obvious happiness and well-being, the granddaughters thriving, one family having moved into a new nest while we were away, a daughter and boyfriend planning some important future steps and regaling us with stories of adventures in the wild, and an impish 4-year old showing off the moves from the end-of-class hip-hop dance recital we missed. Pater got his hair cut and spent a satisfying hour visiting his Mom. We ate bacon and eggs for breakfast, pho with lemongrass pork for lunch, and had everyone over for takeout sushi last night. I’m sure all these food can be eaten in Paris, but we never eat them there and it was good to introduce that much variety to the menu in one day.

Now we’re taking advantage of the 4:30 awakening that is an inevitable result of jet lag, and we’ve caught the 6:20 ferry back to Vancouver Island, the big island to us little-island folk. By the time we get to Nanaimo, the grocery store will be open, and we’ll pick up enough food to get us through our first day home. And then I can get working on the rest of my Happy to be Home list. By tomorrow, I will probably flood you with garden photos. . ..until then, Happy Sailing through your Wednesday. . .

Welcome home, to our cool and breezy island. The blue skies are welcome enough, I'm sure, but I'll add mine. There's nothing quite like the ferry ride home!

It's a wonderful way to come back home, isn't it, no matter how much folks may grumble about BC Ferries!

For some reason I find this post incredibly heartening. The photos alone, but then the writing itself and the recounting of a homecoming. Thank you.

    Welcome back mater!
We have been enjoying the warm sunshine these past few weeks.
Hope you settle in and that your jet lag departs in a timely fashion.

I loved being welcomed by sunshine, and also loved that it was much cooler sunshine than Paris is "enjoying" at the moment. Today's a bit cooler — perfect for all the gardening I have to do!

Welcome home!! The weather is just cooling off a bit, but gorgeous, as you can see. I just love that ferry ride. The anticipation of landing.

Thanks! And let me know if your schedule will bring you down this way — perhaps we could manage a Kir on my deck or a beer at the Dinghy Dock . . . fsproutATgmailDOTcom

You're observant! Yes, I was up really early this morning and got a run in. And I'm enjoying the delights of home indeed, but the garden needs some serious work!
