Since I told youa good place to stay in Barcelona, I thought I’d share a few more images of why you might want to visit. These are all taken just a few blocks from the Hotel Curious, all of them in the area around the Museum of Contemporary Art. I loved the way architecture met and made public space, the way old met new, public private, and light and dark enhanced the way lines and curves moved through space and traced the changes of time through the play of shadow. . . .
I’ll just let you look, shall I? No more commentary . . . My family gathers this afternoon at the cemetery to inter my mother’s ashes in my brother’s grave, where my dad’s were interred 13 years ago. Then my sisters and I ( and a sister-in-law, like a sister really) are heading off for a girls’ weekend, the first time in years (we had a weekend in Seattle back in 2010). Spa appointments have been booked. As has dinner in a very nice restaurant. coins will be flipped over who gets what bed in the house we’ve rented at the little resort town. The drive up is gorgeous enough and long enough to let us settle in together after those last few tears over our newly orphaned state. . .
It should be a great weekend. hope yours is too!
Those are wonderful shots. And I hope the time with your family has been good.
Thanks! And yes, such a good time. . .
Enjoy your girls-away weekend. It sounds like a great treat.
We're having such fun!
You have captured an essential part of Spanish style, the mix of old and contemporary, cheek by jowl. One of the many things we found so appealing in Barcelona.
What did you think of La Sagrada Familia? I wish Gaudi's plans had survived and they had been able to complete it to his eccentric vision.
I'm cooking comfort food on this very wet and cold Saturday afternoon Down Under. Turkey Meatballs in Tomato Sauce (one of Nigella Lawson's recipes, someone who has had more than her share of heartache) and old fashioned Pea and Ham soup. Ready for when son and his gorgeous girlfriend call in.

Hard not to wish Gaudi had been able to execute plans for Sagrada Familia. We need to go back again as we didn't go inside this time, just couldn't bear the lineups.
Funny to think of winter on the day we're having today . . Hot and sunny here. . .enjoy your comfort food. . .
Barcelona is a wonderful city. It's always fun to have a girls' trip.
Fun indeed . . . I don't do it nearly enough
Mater,
Nothing to do with Barcelona, but this article on running in Paris might be your cup of tea …

Cheers,

Thanks for this. I'm sharing it with my sister, a runner, who's visiting paris this fall.
I love Barcelona and yours shots have caught the essence of that part of it perfectly. I hope your spa time is great. I have just been invited to a weekend with a friend – never done it before but if I like it I might take a leaf out of your book and arrange one for me and my daughters and daughters in law.
