Besides being more than disgruntled by the sure prospect of a root canal in my very near future, I’m a bit grumpy that working for a living trumps my desire to join the celebration over at my daughter’s, in Vancouver. Harriet is one today! And I’d so love to crowd into M&R’s home with the family and friends who will be celebrating there this afternoon.
In fact, this is one of the biggest pulls toward retirement, and I may someday write a post about the conflicting tugs. For now, I remind myself that I’m very lucky in the amount of time I spend with my little ones and that my work is still really important to my identity. The young families have their own busy lives, and I would be very wary of centering my own around those.
Instead, for now, I juggle — I’m pretty decent at this act by now!
And I send out Birthday wishes and blow fairy kisses across the water to this little girl
Both cameraphone photos recently supplied by Harriet’s mom as part of the Make Nana Smile texting campaign, an extremely worthwhile local initiatve.
And I rememberher birth, just a year ago, and marvel at how much has changed in that short time — a miracle I’ve seen so often over the decades, one which never gets stale. . .
Happy Birthday, Harriet — Nana will see you soon!
Love the red hair! She is a real charmer.
I love getting those kinds of texts…
the red hair is charming, isn't it — and I know you've got your own little redhead to cuddle. . .
Thank you for the birthday love, Nana! (is what she would most likely say if she could see this post). Looking forward to seeing you soon.
Saturday! 😉
Harriet is a cutie pie! Happy Birthday little one.
Thanks, Susan!
Eeek -so cute! And I can see the tug to retire – than for more reasons that it means, um, retirement. Apparently this year has gone by in the blink of an eye.
The confusion is that there are also tugs NOT to retire . . . but yes, isn't she cute? (says her biased Nana)
Aah root canal! Me too. How can I be certain that is what I need? Help? Jeni
Hmmmm — visit your dentist, pronto!
A year already! Do not envy you the root canal but your granddaughters? Hugely!
Yes, life does offer good to balance the bad. . . .;-)
I can see the tug but admire your approach and balance. Happy Birthday to the little one with red hair. Gorgeous.
Thanks, Moonboots!
Such a sweetheart. I empathize with the tugging. Happy Birthday, Harriet.
Yes, I'm sure you feel it too!
It does not seem a year! She is lovely with her red hair.
Thank you! This biased Nana cannot help but agree. . .
A very happy birthday to all involved, the whole lovely extended family shares. And three cheers for red-heads, long may they wave!
