Postcards from Paris

We left Paris last Friday, taking the train to Turin for a couple of nights before heading to Fiumicino where we’re currently enjoying some time with our granddaughter and her parents (yep, she gets top billing!). We’re staying in a hotel within easy walking distance of their place, and our room has a small balcony with a stunning view out to the Tyrrhenian Sea. Unfortunately, the hotel’s charms do not seem to extend to its Wifi, and I’m having no luck at all getting recent photos to transfer from my phone to my laptop (usually done via Wifi and the iCloud).

I always love the displays of gardening materials in the windows of Deyrolle.

But postcards always seem to arrive slowly, belatedly, don’t they? So perhaps you won’t mind if I post these Paris Window postcards from a small seaside city in Italy. . . .

And the displays of taxidermy . . . also in Deyrolle. . .

The windows at Repetto are always worth stopping to admire — and I love the reflections they capture of the apartments across the street.

Look closely: this tutu is made ingeniously of offcuts, scraps from making ballet slippers . . .

On Blvd. Saint Germain, these delightful windows draw pet owners in to a shop with everything a cat or dog could need!

And you know I’m always fascinated by textiles and their making, so these windows in Le Bon Marché meant Paul had to wait a bit for me and my iPhone to do our thing. . . .

These luxurious plaids of Brun de Vian-Tiran, those striking colour combinations. . . and again, the layering of reflections from the Paris street and the gorgeous arrangement of goods always appeals to me.

I hope you like it as well.

Not far away from those Bon Marché windows was a scary scene (indicating, one hopes, the playful side of a local hotel rather than any horrors inside 😉

Join my guy (can you see him in the reflection?) in admiring the spooky wares of this Patisserie. Ghosts and pumpkins (and pigs?), Oh My!

And finally, not sure what Basquiat would have thought about this commercialization of his work (and his words), but collectors will surely be pausing to admire this collaboration between Samsonite and Basquiat’s estate as they stroll along St. Germain. . .

We’re heading over to pick up La Ragazzina shortly, so I’m going to cross my fingers and hope these digital postcards make their way from this electronic postbox to your screen without too many delays.

And in the classic salutation of a travel postcard:

Wish you were here,

xo,

f

I feel I am there as I lose myself staring at the details in your wonderful cartes postales. I too love the details of the apartment buildings caught in the reflections, and it’s always reassuring to see some familiar faces as well. The tutu is sublime. My daughter studied ballet until her mid-teens and the Repetto windows bring back many happy memories. The Halloween sweets are charming but it’s the mille-feuille I’d be purchasing. And I can feel those beautiful textiles beneath my fingers. Thank you for this tour of magical Paris.

Deyrolle is fascinating, inside and out. I like the colours on the man-goat, they seem very French to me.

But tut! I don’t know what they’re teaching in schools these days. Every domestic animal knows that one meaty bone does not equal two stripped bare 🙂

I’ve never been mad about plaid, but THAT plaid is a work of art. Everything in every window is. And, that JMB Samsonite suitcase… yes please! Thank you for sharing your photos, I needed something really beautiful today.
