As I write this, Paul is loading the tourtières in the car and we’ll head off momentarily to our daughter’s home where we’ll spend Christmas Eve with two (of three) daughters’ families (we’re hoping to see our son’s family early next week). When we drive home later, we may be driving through a light (and likely wet) snowfall. It looks as if there’s a very good chance of a White Christmas here, which doesn’t happen often and which, as you might know, makes everything rather magical, despite my normal aversion to snow in the city
But snow’s not a problem when we’re not trying to drive far, so I’m crossing my fingers and wishing for the magic.
I wish you magic as well. And peace, joy, comfort, love. . . .
And a sense, perhaps, of the transcendent, of the numinous, beyond our quotidian, material cares.
This Christmas post from a few years ago (2016, in fact) offers a glimpse of that, at least it did for me. A hint of spiritual possibilities, of beauty that might console at the end of a difficult two years, of hope for something just beyond. I’ve run out of words, and my car is waiting, so let me just wish you all a Peaceful and Joyous Christmas, whatever that means for you.
xo,
Frances
A quiet evening here with my son and daughter-in-law, waiting for one mire guest and also waiting for the snow we’ve been promised.

Thank you! And Welcome, new follower!
Merry Christmas to you and yours, Frances.
Spent Christmas Eve at daughter’s home with one son’s family also in attendance. Four children under seven who were happy with their gifts and simply being together made it a sweet occasion. Two other son’s families live too far away to make gathering easy, so phone calls later today will have to suffice.
Merry,beautiful,magical Christmas!

Happy Christmas to you and your family dear Frances. It’s almost noon on Boxing Day here. Christmas Day was 30 deg C, and we were lucky enough to enjoy a lovely outdoors lunch at a friends’ place – lucky me, all the festive fun with little cooking as me no hosting. And today is very quiet and restful. 📦 day is one of my favourite holidays. May the rest of your Christmas be happy and bright 🎄💕🕊
Merry Christmas to you and your family, Frances. We’ve sent our families off to their own homes after a day filled with 5 active grandchildren, delicious food, and lots of fun. The older grands loved the snow, of which we had just a little, and spent much time playing outdoors. Now the house is quiet and mostly picked up. The rest will wait. I read your post on the lovely light glowing in the St. Pierre church in Paris. Our weary world needs light and hope.
Happy belated Christmas, F! xoxo
Snow was general…
Happy NEW YEAR!
