I promised to get you a Mother-Daughter Sweater Selfie, and I’m keeping my promise today! Megan texted the other day: “Get your sweater on. We’re doing the Selfies.”
Of course, she had lots of energy, given that we’d just had her Five (and three-quarters!) and her Three for a sleepover. . .
Above, an accurate representation of our respective heights; below; we decided we needed to align the pattern along the turquoise — isn’t it striking how different that looks in the two colour combinations?
Spot the tiny photo-bomber?
My cheeky girl insisted I take a photo of her wearing the sweater and holding a loaf of bread that was cooling on the counter. She even gave me a suggested caption for posting it: I made these three things (Woman, Sweater, Bread — and yes I did, it’s true 😉
By the way, since you’ve probably noticed the curls — yes, I think she did get them from me, and yes, they’re completely natural. I think both of us probably used the same Apply Product to Wet Hair, Scrunch All Over technique — I let mine dry naturally, and I think she blows hers with a diffuser. I usually use a pick to bring some volume once it’s all dry.
And mine is all my own colour now, lots of grey — if you’re curious, I wrote about my decision to go grey and the approach I took here
And finally, we took the hint (see her above, in the bottom right corner) and brought the Five (and three quarters!!) into the frame. . .
Off for a hike this morning — up Mother Nature’s Stairmaster as our route is known locally (853 metres elevation gain over 2.9 kilometres). Last time we did it I was two years younger . . . wish me luck and stamina and strength.
You really look a lot alike. Both sweaters are beautiful. Good luck with the Grind!
Thanks! I made it up that big hill and was surprisingly okay the next day 😉
What lovely photos. All those beautiful and present women. I love the way your granddaughter found her way to full frame.
Great sweaters too:).
Yes, she does manage to do that, our little redhead 😉
So cute! And beautiful.

Thanks!
Lovely family photo bringing together sustaining aspects of life- family, food, activities we love. It's great to be reminded how sweet life can be. Thank you.
It seems so important to remember this sweetness in times like these. You're very welcome.
Natural beauties,all three of you
As you really make all things perfect-I could see a little Birkin sweater in the future….
Dottoressa
Thank you. . . and who knows about the future knitting. . .
Two beautiful women, an adorable (and persistent) little girl, terrific sweaters (the two colourways make such a difference to the appearance and I can’t decide which one I prefer – no wonder you made two!). Good luck with the stairmaster. She knits, she bakes and she hikes – you are a very accomplished woman.
I quite liked the first one and enjoyed wearing it — but it suits her so very well.
As for the hike, one (steep) step at a time. . .
This is so lovely! Those sweaters look, on the one hand, totally aligned with one another and, on the other hand, like completely different sweaters. I don't know which one I like better!? But the cool thing is that you can swap every once in a while and have a new look that goes with all of the same things.
True enough! I've already made her promise "her" sweater comes back to me if it needs washing. Hand-washing handknits isn't hard at all, as you know, but it requires motivation/commitment that comes more readily to the one who's wielded the needles.
Love the sweaters, their colors/pattern, and who is wearing what color combination! Love the energy of family, three generations, and the warm smiles!
You are a blessed woman!
Charlene H
Thanks, Charlene. I'm very fortunate indeed.
Grand photos of some very lovely women (including the 5 3/4 cutie). Your daughter, like mine, certainly has the height advantage. I agree that the different colourways of the sweaters really makes them look as though they could be made from different patterns. Beautiful.
Isn't she cute, that little one?
Thank you!
Those sweaters (and the women who are wearing them) are beautiful! I love knitting but tend to avoid stranded colourwork … Birkin may make me reconsider this stance.
I think that each of you is wearing the colour combo that suits you best. You both look wonderful!
Denise L.
Thanks!
I love the possibility to play with colours in stranded work, but I find it much easier since I learned to hold/work yarn in/with both hands. There's a version of Birkin done with only one contrast colour (white/cream) on a dark (black, dark brown?) background and it's very effective. You might want to try something like that.
What a gorgeous set of family portraits. (And jumpers.)
Thank you!
Your progeny are gorgeous! And they look so much like you. Their beautiful lips, for one thing. 🙂
And your sweaters — gee, I wish I could do that. But that's not in my wheelhouse.
I look forward to hearing of your hike — or maybe I already did on another platform? I've never done that uphill hike, but looking forward to it one day soon.
Have been traveling a lot lately, and it's good to be home right now. Fall is getting pretty down here.

I do think my offspring are pretty gorgeous — thank you!
I did post a photo and a video from the top of the Grouse Grind. It was as gruelling as ever, but a gorgeous day for it. 90 minutes (some speed demons manage it in under 30 minutes! but the average is apparently 90-120 minutes, and since I'm well over the average age, my time wasn't bad) — but more importantly, I wasn't stiff at all the day after.
This is a good time of year to be settling back in at home after so much travelling, but I imagine you may have some emotional waves finding you there. Take care of yourself. xo
Beautiful sweaters and such great hair in your family!
