Back to the Short ‘n’ Sweet after Tuesday’s long post(if you haven’t read it, I think it’s worth scanning at least for the conversation evolving in the comments. I love the privilege of curating these chats!).
This post is not only short, but the photo’s not even mine (I took it from the J Crew website). A gold lamé dress might not be everyone’s idea of a practical travel piece, but this baby is washable and those built-in crinkles mean it should be wearable right out of my carry-on. I’m confident the fabric is a credible passport to the opera in Rome, while the easy cut means I can also wear it for museum visits in Bordeaux, lunches with Pater in Paris, dinners on a terrace in Turin.
After all, seven weeks out of a carry-on means every single garment has to pull its weight. Let the sorting begin…
That's very you. Will you get the scarf?
No, just the inspiration of wearing it with one. I really don't need more scarves (I'll skip the cute hat as well😉
I am greatly enjoying the tone of this series – and anticipating the results of your sorting!
Thanks for saying so, Marsha! Is it the Short and Sweet you like or just my efforts to re energize a bit?
What a fun choice to start with! I look forward to seeing the rest of your capsule.
Shoes are what always trip me up (ha! And sorry!). And 7 weeks is a challenge but the weather should be easy to pack for….(whoops, might have just jinxed myself)
Love this dress and looking forward to seeing it enjoying its travels. Great idea to have a wild card in amongst the more practical selection. The piece you love often gets more wear than the sensible garments.
I think that's so true, Ceri, and especially on a longer trip I get weary of my practical stuff…
Perfect! Are those pockets I see?
You got it, pockets!
Great dress. I can imagine it worn with nude brogues, Birkenstocks, and sparkling heels, all equally well. Also, are those pockets I see? How cool.
I do think it will be flexible, dress up and down with shoes, especially. And those are indeed pockets. Who could resist?!
Looks like a great dress…I think the colour will be very flattering with your hair and complexion.
I can't imagine why/how I used to wear silver when this is such a flattering colour for me now. Even Pater was struck by the effect.
It will be autumn and you can layer a shawl or jacket over that dress. The colour will suit you and this could be your dress up piece.
Good ideas, Mme. I'm determined to make it work well into the fall.
Oh,you started with packing, how exciting!I like this shade of gold and cut of the dress, hope you'll have great time wearing it!
Opera in Rome….wonderful!
Dottoressa
I'm getting excited now, thinking of what to bring and what we'll do there, especially opera in Rome!
I think it is fabulous and you will love wearing it! What a wonderful trip you have planned – enjoy x
Thanks Marianne! I'm so looking forward to the trip, especially seeing my daughter and granddaughter again
It looks like a fabulously versatile dress, and one that is fun to wear as well.
I think it will be, Mardel!
Oh, this is a bold and wonderful choice as a staple. Shimmery gold – you are so right, great for daytime and great for evening. And the crinkle effect works to your advantage. I love that you chose this piece.
Thanks, Melanie! I've been playing with the possibilities in front of my mirror as I start planning what to bring, and so far, so good. . .
Great dress to travel with. It looks very versatile to me. The color seems like a great one for you!
I'm beginning to see that I should be wearing this colour much more. Although as the grey grows in, who knows? 😉
