Short and Sweet, just one Morning

Waiting through interminable advertisements and supposed entertainment trivia for Trainwreck to begin (have you seen it?) and realizing I have time to put together the short post I had planned for tomorrow. I’ve already begun drafting a longer post, my first commitment to my recent resolution. But the flip side of that resolution, the only way I can manage regular longer, perhaps more exploratory posts, is a commitment to shorter posts that still offer engaging content. We’ll have to see how that unfolds.

First up, then, a collage of images from a leisurely morning I spent downtown on my own. Coffee, a pastry, and the morning paper. An artistic window display at Club Monaco on Robson (great effect from a simple material, the lowly tongue depressor). A sweet graffiti message written in chalk on wooden sidewalk seating.

Have you had a chance to wander on your own recently? If so, where did your steps take you? If not, where do you wish they could?

They’re dimming the lights now so I’m clicking on Publish. Let’s chat soon!

I really enjoy to have mornings like that for myself, sitting, drinking coffee, watching people, especially when I'm abroad !
I find them interesting, amusing, get some inspirations! I need them from time to time! It is so good when you feel peacefull and happy with yourself

I think it's so important to, as you say, feel peaceful and happy with yourself. Bet you enjoyed those 3 days to yourself at the seashore!

Wandering alone…did it last Sunday in London. Pouring, pouring rain….Whitechapel…Spitalfields….perfect. Nobody to talk to, nobody to consider, stopped when really hungry and time to dry off. Sunday evening…City of London…semi-deserted streets….ancient churches….
It really doesn't get much better than that.

Oh, that sounds heavenly. I love the anonymity of a day in London, something I remember really recognizing when I first visited it in my teens.

Time alone without anyone to consider is a great luxury for those of us who are lucky enough to have someone or ones to consider the rest of the time. Even a train journey counts as long as I have a seat and those children are nothing to do with me … Coffee and cake in the sun is the ultimate treat.

    Hope the film was good

So true that it's having a steady someone of my own which makes being on my own a luxury. Also true that the same commute or even an errand that might seem a drudgery to many can be a lovely respite when you're solo for a change and yes, the movie was fun!

Wandering Kerrisdale as Monsieur played on a street corner at 41st and Yew. It was so hot and many of the old-time shops are gone. Hager Books and Buchan Stationery are favourites. I bought some Saint-Nectaire cheese from a cheesemonger.
Did you visit St. Nectaire when you were in the Auvergne? I'm reading a book about Man Ray in 20's Paris. A small salad and a glass of Pinot gris transported me to the Marais.

I don't remember visiting St. Nectarine but I love the cheese. I haven't wandered Kerrisdale for years. I suppose Hills is still there, at least.
We saw a great show about Man Ray at UBCs Museum of Anthropology a few years ago… I'll have to search out that catalogue.

I haven't done any wandering like that recently. And why not? Perhaps you have kicked me into action.

I have been so busy transforming our garden that I need to take a day off. Your morning sounds so wonderful! Right now as I peruse your posts I am sipping a bowl of espresso with frothy skimmed milk…a little luxury goes a long way!
Have you been watching season 3 of The Last Tango in Halifax?

I've been impressed to see the garden work you're doing. Definitely time for a day off! I had no idea Season 3 of The Last Tango had begun. I'll be lining up a binge session soon! Thanks!

Ooooh, I know where you went for coffee. Mmm. I went there with Sylvia of 40-plus style when she was in town. Have you tried their chocolate eclairs? Warning: Stay away from them!!!
It's wonderful that you had a morning to meander on your own. If you are up for it, sometime let's have that pie at Acme…or perhaps a chocolate eclair? Ack!

I truly was, Mary😉 with my iPhone and an app called BlogGo. Some limitations but it's pretty efficient for a short post.

Love this post. I too have been so busy that I haven't taken time for myself to explore. It seems I am really all over the place at the moment, and those leisurely times of exploration fill a gap and meet a need that I seem to have been neglecting. Apologies for my randomness.

Instagram has influenced me, and the availability of BlogGo (and there may be other good phone apps as well. I also like Blogsy on my iPad mini… They all have limitations but I'm deciding the trade-off is worthwhile.

    Popsicle sticks!

That was my first (happier) impression too! Still prefer it although up close and personal they're wider. Giant Popsicles, though, even better!
