Two Things Friday?

I was planning to post Five Things Friday today–I’ve been collecting images toward the post all week. But then my computer monitor faded into death yesterday afternoon, and there were too many incidents involving cat shit (yes, one would be too many and there were more than one, and yes, shit is a rude word, but these were incidents that demanded it. One involved my bare feet and my bedside rug. Another involved discovery by vacuum cleaner. Yes, it had a beater bar. Physics can be ugly. We will speak of this no more).

And then my son and his wife arrived for a visit and we had a lovely dinner together, and this morning I Rose’n’Shone at Yoga Class, and Pater helped me buy and set up my new monitor, and I had a wee nap, and all is much better.

But I still didn’t put together my Five Things post. Instead, I helped make this happen

I taught my lovely, very pregnant daughter-in-law to knit. That’s a very good One Thing for Friday. I’m going back to it as soon as I sign off here. (Aren’t her nails just perfect for this photo op? She just had them done, one of those ever-so-important pick-me-ups pregnant mommy’sMommas need)

Oh, let me sneak in a Second Friday Thing: Happy Birthday to Daughter #2, mother of my youngest granddaughter!

Now back to that knitting lesson. . .

Knitting is such a wonderful thing to do when one is expecting a child….if it had not been for my knitting projects I probably would not have sat down and rested as often.
Her manicure looks lovely…hope you have a fun weekend sitting, chatting and knitting.

I never thought of that, but it is definitely a good way to sit down, put one's feet up. . .and yes, we did have a great visit, thanks.

I laughed – not, of course, at the calamities – but at the admission that certain times call for certain words. I was looking today at a knitting project that I've been neglecting and the sight of the lovely red yarn in your photo may be just the nudge toward action that I need to pick it up again.

Isn't that a cheery colour of yarn — cherry red, I really like it! Hope it gets you back at your project.

I can't even imagine trying to teach someone to knit. Lucky DIL to have you for a teacher.
I'm glad all is settled at your house. Sorry, but it's good to know that things like that happen in other households!

I was also teaching Nola over the past few months — my DIL picked it up really quickly. Learned the knit stitch and produced inches and inches of garter stitch, at which point I taught her to purl and she quickly managed inches of stocking stitch. As for the nastier stuff, I'm not at all sure we're done. This cat (a left-behind of one of the young folks 15+ years ago!) has always had bathroom weaknesses and old age has her quite unpredictable.

Having a cat in your household has its price, and for you it may be very high sometimes, as you appear not to be very much of a cat person. I would willigly pay it to have another cat around, but with all this buildung activity going on and several issues unresolved between the landlord and myself, I better wait a bit…
    Have a lovely weekend!

I'm not sure that I'm a cat person, but somehow I've had the care of one (two for a few years as they overlapped) for the last 31 or 32 years. I wish I could find someone like you nearby to give this old girl the geriatric care she needs. Hope your weekend was lovely as well!

I endorse your vocabulary in this situation:). And that photo is 5 Things all by itself:).

To teach someone to knit is such a gift. I have had the delight of watching younger daughter, taught rather clumsily to crochet by me (I'm a knitter more than a crocheter) become far better at it than I am. She is now in the process of moving on to knitting. How lovely your daughter in law looks at this stage of pregnancy. New life to soften the blow of loss.

Ah, nicely put, Elizabeth. It's true that the focus on the new babies eases our loss somewhat, even as it makes it ever so clear that our identity is firmly that of Grandparents.

So we'll sit in a cafe in Montreal and I'll teach you to knit?

Yes, and that makes one EWWwww and two Hoorays — a pretty decent ratio, right?
