You know how you hear those cautionary modern internet etiquette stories? Like the sister or the favourite aunt or the best friend who found out about the new baby on Facebook or on someone’s blog, when they should have got a personal phone call first?
Well, we’re not going to let that happen, are we? So I’ll be at the hospital today visiting and nuzzling and listening and admiring and gathering a few permissions. Until I’ve got those, I think I’m okay to say that mom and baby are healthy after a long and difficult labour that culminated in surgery. That mom and dad would have been disappointed in that path if it hadn’t been so damn obvious (to the point of scary for a short while) that it was the only safe option.
And that the rest of us have had our hearts blown open (once again) by watching a family get born. The texts that we’re flying back and forth last night. And one glorious iPhone photo of a beautiful newborn, sent from the Surgical Suite by an exultant, if shaky, new father.
