Kitchen, Family, Words and Pictures

A gruelling family (extended, his side) session yesterday. Not to be talked about here, but just to register that I am distracted, at a minimum. The blog comforts me, though, so here I am….

As a distraction/attempt at healing last night, we went to see Juliette Binoche and Clive Owen in Words and Pictures. You should too. So good in so many ways, plus it features considerable Vancouver scenery and our favourite “big family brunch” spot….

We’re off to Ikea this morning, trying to make choices for a way overdue reno of our condo kitchen. This gives me an excuse to post pictures of one of the apartments we rented in Peschici ( all three that we rented were outfitted with IKEA kitchens). These all suited the old buildings very well, and helped me firm up what I’m hoping for in the condo.

Plus, posting these photos of my son and daughter-in-law putting together a meal that all ten of us enjoyed together reminds me of the other side of the family balance sheet. Ups and downs, good and bad, happy and sad, it’s a roller coaster …

Family conferences/confrontations prey on the mind for a long time. Is it good that you are talking? Is there progress, however minute? Love the photos of your Italian kitchen. I always admire the Ikea kitchens when I go through the store and wouldn't mind using them when we redo our kitchen sometime in the future.

I think it's good, yes, in the sense that family's worth too much to accept its rupture easily. And there is some mending in some important areas. But there's much to grieve, and I'm doing that, alongside kitchen shopping. I'm glad this is just for our condo kitchen, tiny and not intended to be ours for too many more years. So much work and decision-making!

Wishing you all the best. Can't you just sort of outnumber the misery?:)

    Family stuff is hard work….
Several of our friends have IKEA kitchens and they are stunning…the difficult part is narrowing it down to one.
Thank you for the movie tip I like both those actors and seeing Vancouver scenery will be a bonus.

We're trying to stick to some simple guidelines for the kitchen, but even then, oh my goodness! Made some decisions this morning, but there will have to be a few follow-up trips….

I love little European kitchens and I dislike the intricacies of family relations. Hope you enjoy choosing the kitchen. I will go to see that movie.
