Un après-midi, au jardin. . .

Just one small red Japanese maple

 and some late afternoon sunlight.

 And warmth

 and birdsong (which you, sadly, can’t hear in these photos even if I can remember it clearly)

 and the honeyed fragrance of the arbutus flowers just above, to the left, out of the frame. . .

 Exquisite shifting of reds, dark to light,orange to burgundy . . .

    Honeyed air – that just about sums up the entire South Island. It's intoxicating. So glad that I'm not the only one taking it all in!
