I’ve been having the loveliest weekend, even though I’m currently at home by myself, marking papers, while Paul has a vigorous, sunny hike up Grouse Mountain with our daughter and her guy. Friday night’s meal at our nearby go-to, La Brasserie, was worked off Saturday morning by a glorious 19kilometre run along the seashore with my baby sister, catching up on all her news.
Then I met another sister and my daughter for a perfect few hours of breakfast-shopping-lunch, got home in time to mark a few papers and nap before another daughter brought little Harriet over for dinner.
More marking today in the quiet apartment, but I got out into the sunshine for a couple of hours to pick up a few items I missed yesterday. Paul’s on his way home now and we’ll soon pick up both granddaughters so the moms can concentrate on turkey and desserts and table-setting (no worries, a dad will be rolling up his sleeves to work on dinner as well). Then we just have to show up with our wee charges and eat. And get to see son and daughter-in-law, newly relocated to Vancouver. All four kids and almost all partners together. Joy! (One son-in-law is taking a much-needed quiet break on our little island, keeping the raccoons and deer from an all-out takeover.)
So let me wish you a Happy Thanksgiving as well, even if it’s not a designated day for it where you live. It’s always time to give thanks,no?

Happy Thanksgiving to you! I hope the dinner was delicious and the family time enjoyable! I could really use a long weekend, but I'll have to wait another few weeks until we have our day of thanks. In the meantime, I'm thankful for Skype as it allowed me to "join" one of my niece's 3rd birthday party and to "hang out" with my sister and other niece this weekend.
Yes! Imagine what it would have been like, only 20 years ago, to live so far from family (actually, I've done it, and the phone bills could be frightening!)
Belated Happy Thanksgiving! Our own Thanksgiving is close two months away from now but my kids are spending it with other relatives this year so this weekend we celebrated pre-Thanksgiving with my kids and their sweeties and it was lovely. I whipped up several delicious South Indian (Punjabi) curry dishes. The kitchen still smells fabulous this morning.
That sounds like a wonderful meal! I'm imagining that rich fragrance from here!
I'm feeling very mellow after a weekend of feasting, family and fun, similar to yours. I didn't comment on the Munro post because of being in a hurry, but I'm so very pleased that she won. I read her book "Lives of Girls and Women" years ago and loved it. It's time to revisit that book and move on to one of her many others.
