No, not that kind of tea dress. Check out the print on this little dress I couldn’t resist picking up at The Gap last week.
I’m not convinced by the pattern-mixing here, but I wore this on Thursday, which was Valentine’s Day, and my guy was away in Portland for work. So? Well, the scarf is one he gave me for my birthday a few years ago, and not only is it covered with hearts, but the pattern’s called “De Tout Coeur” — which is how I love my Mister!
And really, teacups and hearts — two of my favourite things!
So a simple rundown of What I Wore: Smythe blazer, Ink boots (bought in Paris 2 years ago — so very useful!), Gap dress, and Hermè scarf. All but the dress 2-6 years old, just the age I like my outfits to hit, i.e. lots of old favourites with an occasional new piece thrown in to freshen things up.
I’m joining the Visual Monday brigade — do check it out over at Patti’s.
And I must warn you — I couldn’t resist aiming my camera in every direction while enjoying the good weather this weekend. There will be photo posts; oh, yes there will!
Oh, the print on that dress is really cute! I love the scarf, too!
Thanks! Not sure I should have combined them, but I do like both very much.
I think it is the tones of the blues that don't quite achieve the mix; the scarf's royal blue and the dress looks a true navy (at least on my monitor) so the coordination is a bit off. All blues do not compliment one another. The scarf is so pretty all the same!
In fact, the scarf's background is navy, although the camera has picked up the light it reflects and softened the colour considerably. I wear it happily with my navy pullover, but I'm not keen on it here. I think you're right that it's a colour problem though — the white of the teacups pushes the dress navy in a different direction to where all the other colours (and there is an off-white, but not a clean white) in the scarf. I went ahead and wore them together happily enough as a nod to Pater on V-Day, but probably won't again.
I've never seen the teacup dress at Gap – I do love the fun print. And of course, the boots and scarf are marvelous, Mater. Thanks for linking up!
It's a great print and they've made it up in shirts as well, in the most recent wave of springwear (at least up here in Canada)
I think it all looks very cute and insouciant together. The not-matching blues create the need for a second look at the whole outfit.
Ah, you're sweet, generous, Lorrie — I always love grabbing that adjective "insouciant"!
What a cute dress! Too bad your Mister wasn't home for Valentines – I hope you enjoyed a nice weekend together though.
We had a very restful weekend — just what I needed — and there were a couple of romantic meals at home. . .

I think your pattern mixing is spot on perfect! Very pretty Mater!
Thanks Debbi — you're so kind!
