I can’t manage many words today — too busy processing my students’ — but I can give you pictures of the morning’s glorious light. As glorious as the election results last night — well done, neighbours!
I know, I know! I’ve shown this view of my cushions and curtains too often, but I was so delighted with the way the late fall sunshine slanted into the room this morning, I couldn’t resist another shot. . .
Then I popped out to the deck, where more oblique light was illuminating the pattern of fir needles and maple seeds on this table’s cobalt surface.
And my eye (and camera) swung ’round wishfully — oh, if only I had time to sit in one of those chairs and enjoy the view. . . .
and watch this sealion take advantage of the all-you-can-eat seafood buffet. . .
which he generously shared with this playful group of otters, who frisked their way to shore shortly after I took their photo.
The temperatures have dropped a few degrees here, and we’re expecting overnight frosts (Paul humoured me by getting the winter tires on the care yesterday, so we’re ready!). A worthwhile tradeoff for a few days of sunshine, and I’m looking forward to sitting in one of those beach chairs with a blanket this weekend, and just savouring. Meanwhile, though, back to work . . .

Seriously, right?! Ours are "only" river otters, not the scarcer and more revered sea otters, but still . . .

What a gorgeous view–inside and out. It is a dream to return to the water. Do you get tremendous windstorms (a la Sandy)?
No hurricanes, thank goodness, knock on wood (did you hear we had a tsunami scare last week?)
But we get some fairly ferocious windstorms, and every few years, some neighbour gets a skylight or part of a roof stove in by a falling limb or tree, or an electrical line gets knocked down and we're out of power for a few hours or even a day or two. And the ferry stops running for a sailing or two because of wind, perhaps three or four times a winter, which can be a pain or a blessing, depending how urgent commitments in town feel. . .
