Working away here, trying to get my fall syllabi in order and make some headway on my research. But there’s still time to smell the roses. . . and share them.
Not just roses, as you’ll notice. At the top, I’ve cropped and enlarged one of yesterday’s photos, trying to show what I loved about the colourful action way out on the horizon.
And mixed in with the roses (Royal Sunset, Fantin Latour, Belle de Crecy, Constance Spry, and Graham Thomas) are peonies, lady’s mantle (alchemilla, and catmint (Nepeta).
It’s grey and dripping (Again!) out there, which makes it an okay day to be stuck at a desk. But there are fragrant roses, and sunshine in the forecast. Let’s smile, shall we?!
Yes, let's smile in spite of this weather. I've never suffered from SAD, but I just might be beginning the disorder. These grey mornings leave me listless and unproductive. A bouquet might be just the thing to perk me up. Yours is beautiful.
Love those sails on the horizon. It was a great day for sailing yesterday.
Oh, there's so much grey, and so much rain that we keep thinking there can't be any left! But we must smile, right? And there's supposed to be sunshine on the way. . .
You and hostess are on the same page today. Gorgeous blooms and arrangements!!
Your roses are lovely! I need to join you in some academic pursuits tomorrow, as I've spent most of today doing laundry and packing boxes.
Yesterday's were the more formulaic tasks that I find it easier to plough through. Today I'm trying to sketch out an argument and if I had laundry to do or boxes to pack, I'd be doing those instead!
I am absolutely smiling. I would rather have cool and wet than hot and parched. Your roses are sweet and beautiful. I heard that author J. K. Rowling used the names of plants to name her Harry Potter characters. The names of your flowers are so fragrant, yes.
I, too, generally prefer more moderate weather, but I'm yearning for some warmth. The cool wet does seem to be good for the roses though.
I managed to get out for a couple of hours in the garden – planting and weeding in the misty rain. This has been a good year for roses and hydrangeas – could it be the rain?
Yep. I'll admit that the roses seem to like the rain. As for the hydrangeas, deer have taken such a fancy to mine that I have no blooms at all.
We have more rain too here on the hills of North Wales. I really would like a little sun now please. My roses however are fabulous as is your vase full of colour. I have just caught up with a number of posts including the one about your daughter. She (and all your daughters) looks beautiful. You are fortunate.
Thanks, Elizabeth — I do feel fortunate! And yes, thank goodness for vases of coloured roses — some respite from the grey!
Roses make me happy. Thank you for sharing your beautiful bouquets.
I love that first photo with the colorful spinnaker sails.
Aren't the spinnakers pretty?!
I was out despite the cloudy skies…
your roses are lovely mater!
Roses make everything look brighter.
They do help. . .
Gray and dripping does have its charms.
The roses make it lovelier.
I'm hoping for some sunshine, to make it lovelier yet! 😉
grey makes a perfect backdrop to intense colour 🙂
Yes, that it does. But perhaps I wouldn't mind having the colour washed out somewhat, if that's the cost of sunlight . . . 😉
