I’m rather distracted at the moment by a very charming house guest, but I don’t want you to think my concerted indolence is extending quite as far as ignoring all you lovely readers.
So while my getting-close-to-4-year-old granddaughter sleeps in (we tired her yesterday at the beach, let her stay up late at the family dinner), I’ll show you a clever gift I got from my daughter Megan this past birthday.
The young woman who makes these, here in Vancouver, is both a fine woodworker and a jewelry maker, marketing her work under the label Deft Design. Apparently, she came up with these “jewelry canvasses” as a way to display her own wares at the Portobello West monthly designers’ market here in Vancouver. They were quickly coveted, and she now makes them in a variety of styles, depending, I believe on what materials she sources. My daughter’s features a gorgeous vintage frame, for example, while mine is a sleeker look. They turn jewelry organization into a very pleasing and changeable bit of artwork on the wall, I think.
I’m really pleased how easily visible and neatly organized my bracelets, earrings, and necklaces are now. And even if I’m not wearing them, they still cheer me, there on the wall. See more examples at DeftDesign’s What The Frame on Facebook (and let me assure you here that neither Megan nor myself received any remuneration for these comments)
So thank you, Megan, again. But now it’s time for me to answer my house guest’s call. . . . One Nana, signing off . . .
Enjoy your time with the wee one! I do like that jewelry display gizmo. Very nicely designed! (And I'm coveting that necklace of sea-glass green stones.)
The necklace is a Chan Luu piece I've had for years — chalcedony, a favourite stone.
You've inspired me with your indolence! I like this display, especially the earrings.
That's an inspiration I'm proud to offer — here's to indolence!
That's a very clever design. It's a great idea to have it all in sight.
Lucky you to have your grand daughter about!
Enjoy!
I do feel lucky indeed!
…and here I was, feeling quite clever with my plate-holder-turned-necklace-holder….
Lucky you to have some Nana time with an almost four year old. I've had some quality skype time, but it's not really the same!
I think any design that puts the accessories on display and organizes them is great — I'm really pleased with my gift.
Hope you get some facetime with your little ones before too long.
What a brilliant way to artfully display your jewellery, everything within sight and accessible.
I like it, and it's great to be able to support a local artisan.
