You might remember that I checked into my favourite local boutique a few weeks ago only to find that it was closing in three days and that most of the stock had already been sold. What was left, though, was priced at $25 per garment and I scored a new dress for opera-going and other dress-up pursuits.
I also picked up this black cotton Simon Chang shirt-dress-tunic with some ingenious origami work that lifts it beyond pedestrian while doing some handy camouflage at the tummy.
I decided it would be the perfect foil for another bargain I picked up months ago at The Gap, these snake-print skinny jeans (also marked down to under $30).
The first pair of shoes I tried were too distracting, so I switched to these Ink boots bought last spring in Paris — I wear these so often!
Kept the jewelry accessorizing simple with my double-tour watch and my little Thomas Sabo French bulldog — (there’s a jewelry shop somewhere in the 6th or 7th arr. on rue d’Assas in the 6th, with the delightful name of Madame et son Bouledogue). . .
And yes, I know this shot is blurred, and I apologize, but a flash would have bounced, and the black background, I guess, kept the shutter open too long for me to stay still enough — Plus I’m trying to get the shots and then get out of the house in time to catch the ferry. . . please forgive.
I was pleased that it was warm enough last week to consider wearing a cotton poplin top without a cardi — you can see the length of the shirt, plus the volume complications of the pleating, make a cardigan difficult to add here.
Still, I had to wear my cashmere coat and alpaca knit scarf for my walk to work — it’s still chilly in the mornings here and it cools down quickly again by late afternoon for my walk home.
I have to say that I’m quite liking this Visible Monday habit, finding it a nice formula for regular What I Wore postings — and I love to see what other bloggers are wearing. Have fun checking the variety out for yourself over at Patti’s blog
Wow, I love that origami top! The whole look is great and the boots work beautifully against the snakeskin pattern of the pants. And the bouledogue is fabulous! Will be on the lookout for that shop…

The print on the pants is far more subtle than I realized it would be from the pictures I've seen on Gap's website. And I really like them paired with the top. What a fun composition of pattern and shape!
Thanks! You really can't tell from any distance that the pattern is snakeskin, which is why I figured I'd pick them up at a great sale price. Wasn't sure how much I'd wear them, but they work if everything else is toned down.

The pleating is fascinating, really — if I were sewing again, I'd love to play with something like this.

Thanks for returning my visit, and thanks so much for the follow! Sorry about the picture quality although I suspect the problem is more the black than the use of the mirror. As for the boots, they're a fairly classic "Granny boot" with a low heel that works well for the city.
LOVE the jeans. I think 1969 does some of the best denim out there – at a fraction of the cost of all the designer stuff.
I haven't tried much of the line, but based on these and on the skinny cords that I wore this past winter, I'll have to try out more. I did just pick up a denim (actually closer to a chambray in weight) dress and shirt at fab sale price.
So artsy, so fun. So Japanese in style.

I'm loving loving that Simon Chang number. The architecture is divine and practical. "This is footwear I picked up in Paris…" is something I'm working on getting to say over at my post for Visible Monday. My clicking heels are earing down with the effort and I'm getting nowhere so far… What am I doing wrong? Ha!
