cuteness and packing confusion — last-minute changes

Are these baby sunglasses cute or what?! Here’s Nola with one of her favourite aunts as we head out to visit her great-grandma the night before I flew to Ottawa.

Maybe her cuteness discombobulated me, which would account for my deciding to leave behind a pair of skinny dark jeans that I thought might be too warm anyway if the temperatures get June-ish. Then ten minutes before the cab was scheduled for my 7:30 a.m. pick-up, I popped my polka-dotted coat on over my light leather jacket, got my bags ready to head out, took a look in the mirror and realized/decided that the coat’s gathered full hem didn’t work well with the wider-legged jeans and wouldn’t work with much else and my leather jacket would keep me comfy anyway and if it rained I could always use an umbrella . . . so not polka dots in Paris! I left them behind.
Considering that I’ve been packing for two weeks, I’m not sure what to think of these last-minute changes, but I feel pretty confident I’ll manage with what I have and if I have to shop a bit I’ll have a bit of room now in my suitcase.

Now I’d better get back to the business at hand, deciding which panels to attend this afternoon. I am at a conference, after all. . .

at the risk of being redundant…feel free to take some of those off-or simply consider your birthday wish amplified. What can I say–the internet in the middle of the pacific is baffling

Alison: I quite enjoyed the amplification and was impressed you managed to comment at all, given your circumstances — looking forward to a mutual belated b.d. celebration when you’re home.
