‘member I was being all chipper yesterday, going on about the richness of life, blah, blah, sincere blah? Well, I’m still aiming at that, but omg, it’s tough when I keep sneezing and coughing and being very short of energy. I managed to teach on Monday, cutting classes a wee bit short, and then did my stint at the Writing Centre yesterday, but today I called in sick — the second time this term (I’ve gone 5 or 6 terms in the past without a single sick day, so this is a big deal for me). Tomorrow I’m hosting a visiting poet, so I just couldn’t risk getting even sicker from pushing myself.
Anyway, trying to look on the good side . . . Since I had such low energy, I didn’t even try to mark papers or prep classes (and since we’re near the end of term, that’s not too much of a problem). Instead, I’ve done some very, very light reading (which I’ll write about over here later), had long, long naps, and, when I feel an energy surge, I move to my big chair in the TV room, power up the Angel DVDs and settle in with some knitting. You will either lose all respect for me, or recognize a kindred spirit, when I tell you this is my 3rd time watching Angel all the way through (I’ve been through Buffy 3 times as well) and I enjoy it almost as much as, sometimes even more than, the first time — definitely got my money’s worth from those DVDs.
As for the sweater I’m knitting, I’m loving this as well — I showed it to you back here when I had just several inches of the wonderful-to-work-with Rowan Felted Tweed knitted up. I haven’t much experience with seamless knitting (although Nola’s tulip cardi used that method as well), but what’s not to love? Well, there’s the little matter of 200+ stitches to a row, but it seems a small price to pay for not having to stop and sew pieces together afterwards. I love, love, loved getting the sleeves knit on the round and then just picking up stitches to carry on with the yoke — seems like magic to me.
I have another inch or so to work on the yoke before I get to play with the cables — and soon I’ll have a new sweater, looking (I hope) something like this (but in a prettier colour, imho!).
So now I’m back to watch the pseudo Cordelia web grow more and more tangled and deceitful, and with any luck, I’ll knit my cough away while I’m doing so. See? Upbeat, I can do it . . .
Oh, and I just realized there’s a new episode of Lost on tonight — life is good!

I’ve been fighting off my second cold in as many weeks, but seem to be on the mend. Sometimes rest is exactly what we need.
Absolutely gorgeous, will be terrific on you! My dr told me this winter “the bugs are stronger” and people have been sicker. I’ve struggled with ‘something’ for 2 months and only now, after antibiotics, which I avoid, am getting better. Wishing you the same!
Pseu: Who’d believe we could get tired of rest?! I’m sure your second cold has had something to do with your recent loss — take care of yourself.
Duchesse: Thanks. Your travails with this “something” sound similar to mine, altho’ I’m not quite at 2 months yet — I think when we finally get some spring sunshine, the bugs may retreat . . . at least, I hope so!

Um, I think I’ve found a kindred spirit here! I own all of Angel too and have gone through all of the seasons twice. I have also seen Buffy once entirely through and then many times in random order. I am a huge Angel and Buffy fan, but more so Angel, which I found to be darker and even more compelling than Buffy.
I also confess to having written an academic paper on the figure of the Other in Angel vs the 19th cent. conception of the Other in Stoker’s Dracula.

S. Chic: Yeah! Welcome, kindred spirit! I haven’t tried to decide whether I prefer Buffy or Angel (that Connor is so hard to take!), but I am definitely happy in the Buffyverse!
And also yeah to you having written an academic Angel paper — a colleague and friend of mine treasures her Mr. Pointy award above all her other academic awards and has written numerous Whedon papers. I recently wrote a proposal on Buffy for a psychoanalytic theory collection — sadly, it wasn’t accepted, but I will submit it to more Buffy-centred conferences/publications in future and it will get written.
So glad to have connected over both pattern-mixing style AND Angel-y goodness!
Oh Angel and Buffy are my secret pleasures, perfect to settle into when under the weather too. I came to Buffy late, after Angel but love them both now.
And the color of the cardigan is just gorgeous; but I think I said that before. Can’t wait to see it finished.
