I expect to be in Portugal when you read this, taking many pictures and storing up adventures to tell you about when I return. While I may find a computer and Internet to post occasionally, I’m concentrating on just being there and enjoying Paterfamilias’ company. But I’ve taken advantage of Blogger’s delayed publishing feature to leave some posts so that you don’t forget me while I’m gone. Comments are welcome as always, and I’ll see them if/when I check my e-mail. I might not be able to answer them from Europe, but I’ll do my best to respond when I get back.
We’ll be leaving Quinta Moenda on the 7th and driving back down to Lisbon where we’ll be staying at the Casa da Sao Mameded. Hope it lives up to the charming pictures on its website — I’d show you — a lovely bright yellow building with red tiled roof — but they’ve got some protective work done that’s not letting me borrow.
While in Lisbon, I hope to visit this tiny perfect glove shop, Luvaria Ulisses, pictured here in a photo from this site. When I read about it during my pre-trip research, a pair of beautiful gloves seemed to me the perfect purchase for fitting in my carry-on suitcase easily — a purchase that will remind me of Lisbon for years, if I’m careful. I only hope I can find the perfect red, the same as the pair that were taken from the car, left unlocked in a mall parking spot for ten minutes last January.
Of course, there will be many other wonderful sights, sounds, and tastes to savour while here. If you’d like a sample, you might want to check out this Lisbon Daily Photo blog. When you notice that she has occasionally done a photo-series on shoe shops, you’ll know I might be in trouble. Will I manage with my carry-on, or will my resolve break before we come home? Hmmmm…
I do hope you can find the perfect pair of “replacement” gloves!
It has been many many years since I was in Lisbon. I bought gloves and buttons thinking they were perfectly packable. I treasure the gloves and haven’t used the buttons yet; must do something about that.
Jillian: They didn’t have the right red — you know how tough that can be to find — and it was too hot to really mind much. Consoled myself with some fun jewelry from a young Lisboan designer.
Mardel: This “perfect packability” was what appealed to me as well — I’m envious that you found the button store — my Lonely Planet referred to it, but if the specifics were in the book, I couldn’t find them!
