wonderful Paris architecture

I see that Jean Nouvel has been awarded the 2008 Pritzker, a prize I haven’t been aware of before but apparently the highest award an architect can achieve. This news item only caught my eye because Nouvel is the architect of the marvelous Quai Branley Museum that we visited last spring in Paris, as pictured in the photos here.

The landscaping is almost as stunning as the building, and even the walkways hold delightful surprises embedded in their concrete. Around the other side of the building is a fabulous living wall (plants from top to bottom).

It’s a building and a site that makes you think, clearly — see Paterfamilias, contemplating it all!

I am adding it to my places to see list for Paris. I am a HUGE fan of modern/post-modern architecture. Cannot wait to see this in person. Merci for the post!

It’s well worth a visit, LBR. When do you leave?

LBR: A whole month — lucky you!
Bronwen: Me too — but could you define it? Deep thought? Or?

This building is just fantastic, an award well deserved. I just wish london could have something similar instad of Guerkins & Cheese Graters and all the other gimiky crap they build. Looks like we are all off to Paris then, although I am only managing a measley 3 days, the exchange rate is just awful at the moment, I wish I had stocked up at Christmas.

Zach: you’re probably right, it will be food related, but more likely, something like “I wonder if I should have confit de canard for dinner again. It was so good at lunch. . . “
Alison: Have a great time. Think of me and buy some shoes!

I can think of no better location to wear such an expression. I’ve never been to Paris, and this remains a noticeable absence in my life.

Thomas: You should go, as the Winners commercial proclaims regularly (and annoyingly). I’m sure it’s on your someday list (did you know there’s a Paris Moleskin?)
